We all know that cooking in the kitchen can sometimes be time-consuming. From preparation, to cooking and to cleaning; we all know the struggles when it comes to the kitchen.
Hence, in this blog, I aim to inspire and educate you with 6 kitchen hacks/tips that will help make things run smoother and easier in the kitchen. These hacks are derived from tips I learned from other people, hacks trending on social media, and more.
1. Keep Onion In Water to Reduce the Taste Strength
Sometimes, people might be overwhelmed with the strong onion taste. This can be easily reduced by simply cutting the onions into the desired edible pieces and soaking them in water for roughly 20 minutes (complete other things whilst waiting!) Then add them raw to your food (e.g. salad).
2. Get the smell of Garlic off your Fingers with a Knife
We all know cutting garlic often leaves a stench that never seems to come off. However, I learnt that when done cutting the garlic, rub your fingers (and areas that smell like garlic) against a side of a knife. This will get rid of the garlic smell on your skin. You won't believe it until you try it!
3. Freeze Leftover Broth/Soups in Ice Cube Trays for Easy Storage
Ice cube trays act as convenient alternatives to plastic ziplock bags, hence can be used again and is friendly for the environment. Ice trays also act as great storage for small quantities of food, which overall makes it easier to defrost quicker.
4. How to Effectively Measure Pasta
The circle in the middle of a pasta spatula was designed for a serving of pasta for one person (as seen on the image). This acts as an easy way to measure how much pasta is needed for a meal, therefore avoiding unwanted leftovers/waste!
5. Hidden Benefits of a Cutting Board!
After chopping your ingredients, use the handle/hole on the cutting board to easily put your ingredient in the bowl. This is an easy and non-messy technique that will save you time.
6. Eat your Boiled Eggs Faster by Leaving Them in Cold Water
After boiling your eggs, we often wait for them to cool down in order to eat it. However, placing them in cold water for 10 minutes will cool them just enough (keeping them just a bit warm) for consumption.
